Russias Weight-Lifters to Fight for Gold in Qatar
Eight weight-lifters of Russia stand for their country in the mens four upper weight categories at Weightlifting World Championships in Doha, Qatar. Russias women compete in all seven classes one in each. The girls will win at least two gold medals, the coach Soltan Karakotov vowed.
As a matter of tradition, the states usually send the renewed national teams to the World Championships that follow Olympic Games. Russias weight-lifters proved no exception. The team has no Dmitry Berestov, the absolute leader and Athens champion (up to 105kg class), but introduces five debutants Roman Konstantinov and Muhammad Sozayev (94kg class), Dmitry Klokov and Dmitry Lapikov (105kg class) and Vladimir Glushko (heavy weight). The stake, however, is put on the teams veteran and bronze winner of 2004 Oleg Perepechenovy (85kg class) and 22-year fresher Dmitry Klokov, the son of Olympic Games winner Vyacheslav Klokov.

The womens team leaves from Moscow to Doha tomorrow. Its coach Soltan Karakotov tips Olympic silver and bronze winners Natalia Zabolotnaya (75 kg class) and Zarema Kasayeva (69kg class) as gold medal candidates.
