Alexander Sokolov Praised Openings …
// …of a theater and archive
A briefing about annual results was held in Russian Ministry of Culture and Mass Communications. Minister Alexander Sokolov told about the work in the field of culture.
According to Sokolov, the main achievements of the year were opening of Novosibirsk Theater of Opera and Ballet, and building of State Archive in St. Petersburg. After architectural triumphs, former rector of Moscow Conservatory touched musical problems. One of the problems is future opening radio station “Orpheus,” which has classical repertoire and small air time. Another concern of the minister is preparation to International Concourse of Tchaikovsky. Sokolov said that the organization committee of the concourse would be headed by Mstislav Rastropovich. The 13th international competition of musicians will have new jury system, which was introduced because of the rumors of non-objective judgments. “I will not yet comment on new system. When it will be published, you will make your own opinion,” Sokolov said
Leonid Nadirov, Deputy Minister of Culture, read excerpts from the ministry’s legislative activities. Among the priorities for the ministry work in this direction, Nadirov mentioned author rights and philanthropy. Deputy Minister also said that project of the law about public television will be introduced to Duma in September of the next year.
Kommersant asked the minister about a progress in creating Consultative Committee for Moral and Decency in Media. Sokolov said that he talked about it with Vice Speaker of State Duma Lyubov Sliska and she agreed to head the committee. “We have to find a way that will not allow people to use the word ‘censure’ towards this committee. Besides, the right people in the committee would be a key for success,” the minister answered.
