Suit with No Fuss
It came to light yesterday the suit of Mikhail Shvydkoy, head of the Federal Agency of Russian Culture (Russian acronym is FAKK), against the Minister of Culture Alexander Sokolov, who had publicly accused the Agency of bribetaking, was forwarded to the court. The actual forwarding of the suit turned out the sole fact confirmed by Shvydkoy’s lawyer Pavel Astakhov. Astakhov told Kommersant past week the text of the suit is being discussed. “It is necessary to make it clear, whether the suit against Alexander Sokolov will be brought in by Mikhail Shvydkoy in person, or by the agency’s personnel, or by FAKK as a legal entity,” the lawyer said, declining to comment on the suit content.
Astakhov specified they are unwilling to disclose the suit content because of the pressure built on Shvydkoy (apropos, the minister of culture had brought forward similar arguments, but in his favor, to explain Shvydkoy’s intention to go to law against him). “We don’t say to what court the suit went and against whom the accusation was presented. Everything is quite simple. Under the law a man facing a suit is notified by mail. And it doesn’t call for any PR campaign. We have expected the powerful pressure that could be built up when you are a minister,” Astakhov noted, pointing out they will make comments, when a judge sets the date of the hearing.
Spokesmen of the Ministry of Culture didn’t comment yesterday on any data related to receipt of the notice by Alexander Sokolov.
