Russia’s Foreign Ministry Speaks in Defense of Gas-Poisoned Reporters
Russia’s Foreign Ministry’s spokesman Mikhail Kamynin demanded from Georgia to punish the guilty. Two journalists of Russia suffered as a result of actions of riot police that used tear gas against the opposition in Tbilisi, RIA Novosti reported without giving the names of the victims.
According to previous reports, Russia Today journalist Ekaterina Azarova and camera operator Evgeny Litovko were poisoned by gas that the police used against protestors. Ren TV camera operator Vladimir Molchanov was beaten in addition to tear gas poisoning.
Georgian journalists, mostly those working for opposition Imedi TV, were also among the victims. Overall, roughly 600 went to hospitals for medical assistance. The better part of them had the gas poisoning signs, but some were injured by truncheons and rubber bullets.
Georgia declared the state of emergency for 15 days past night. No rallies or demonstrations could be held there during the period. All independent news programs and media are off air now and the journalists aren’t allowed to collect and disseminate the information.
