Biola Leaked Into Russia
Ukrainian third juice-maker Erlan (Biola) that is said to belong to Ukrainian billionaire Igor Kolomoisky will invest ˆ200 million to build a juice plant in the Rostov region of Russia. Despite the traditionally lower prices, the juice of Ukrainian makers account for 1 percent of Russia’s market.
Erlan’s efforts to find a site for building a juice plant in Russia’s Rostov region were reported by Marketing Director Andrei Matuzko. “It will be our first production asset in Russia. We are elaborating a feasibility study and the issue of the allotment for construction is being solved now,” the manager specified.
“Erlan was offered an allotment of 15 hectares in the Azov industrial area,” confirmed Azov Deputy Mayor Nikolay Balbutsky. According to Rostov region’s Deputy Economy Minister Valery Vakula, “the authorities are considering the possibility of providing to Erlan the allowance for property tax and the regional section of profit tax for five years.”
Erlan will invest ˆ200 million in the project, Matuzko went on, the capacity of new facility will be 170 million liters a year and they intend to sell juice in the Rostov and Volgograd regions and in Krasnodar and Stavropol districts.
“The country’s south is the region of priority for us, it accounts for up to 50 percent of Biola sales in Russia. The remainder goes to Moscow, Samara, Saratov, Voronezh and Kaliningrad,” added Vladislav Karpus, who is the foreign economy director at Erlan.
Erlan sold 25.1 million liters of juice in Russia past year and 15.7 million liters in the first half of 2007.
