Communists Prepare for Class Struggle
At the plenary meeting of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation this weekend, it was decided that communists in parliaments at all levels must sharply increase their legislative activity to strengthen the struggle against the current regime on the street. Nonetheless, the Central Committee acknowledges that the struggle in the parliaments and out of them will not have an effect until “the process of realizing class interests” leads Russian society to a “social explosion.”
The Central Committee meets every four years after the parliamentary and presidential elections to examine the results of those elections and determine the tasks for the communists elected. First deputy chairman of the Central Committee Ivan Melnikov reported that the communists’ parliamentary representation is increasing. In 2004, it was present in 25 parliaments. Now it is present in 79. Only the legislative assemblies of Tyva, Kemerovo Region and Chukotka lack communist members. Melnikov admitted that the party “does not know at what pace the process of realization of class interests is going at” but it “is already now forming promising ground for stable support.”

In order to advance its initiatives successfully, the Central Committee decided to create a “single bank of model bills: that can be used as needed by any communist legislator. Melnikov also noted the importance of civil support for communist initiatives, since “parliamentary work should be directed toward the nourishment and support of the extra-parliamentary movement.” Central Committee deputy chairman Vladimir Kashin read a report on communist protest actions in the last four years. He said that the “social explosion” is inevitable given current conditions and, although the Communist Party is in favor of “a peaceful transition of power to the people, [we] must be ready for any turn of events.” The party will hold a demonstration in support of the opposition media on July 7.
