Corruption Fighters Caught Red Handed
The details of a new scandal at the RF Interior Ministry were reported yesterday. FSB officers first detained and then arrested major Dmitry Tselyakov and major Alexander Nosenko from the organized crime and terrorism department, who had investigated big-name crimes related to financial fraud. The officers are suspected of extorting €1.5 million from Pyotr Chuvilin, vice president of Incredbank and general director of Spartak Soccer Club.
Tselyakov and Nosenko were detained June 10 when they left their houses. The majors, who are currently employed with the organized crime department, are suspected of the crime that mostly relates to their previous employment, when they were members of investigating teams for financial fraud crimes.
Exactly Tselyakov and Nosenko investigated the illicit banking case against Alexei Frenkel, ex-chief of VIP Bank, who is charged with involvement in the assassination of CBR first deputy chairman Andrei Kozlov. They also probed into laundering 71 billion ruble of Boris Sokalsky, owner of New Economic Position Bank.
The charges against the suspects were revealed to defending lawyers June 11, when investigators of the RF Prosecutor General Office applied to Basmanny Court, seeking a sanction for majors’ arrest. According to investigators, Incredbank Vice President Pyotr Chuvilin had filed an extortion claim to FSB May 27.
Chuvilin claimed Tselyakov and Nosenko extorted money via two residents of Lithuania. He had to pay $1 million in the middle of past year and the Lithuanians have approached him this year, demanding € 500,000.
FSB forwarded the files to the investigating division of prosecutors. A criminal case was initiated on count of money extortion and bribing. The intermediaries were detained June 9 and the majors were arrested on the next day.
