Chubais Earned His Adieu
RAO UES of Russia convened yesterday the last Annual General Meeting of holders. The event differed significantly from the previous AGMs. The holders were first offered a lunch and thanked RAO UES first time in many years. But not blaming corrupt practice on Anatoly Chubais would be breaking the tradition. RAO UES CEO said what he would do after July 1 – he would sleep for “at least a couple of years.”
RAO UES of Russia held yesterday its last AGM before July 1 liquidation. The order of business was ordinary – approval of the annual report, dividend and BOD report. The holders sanctioned the winding-up far back October 26, 2007.

The sentiment was tragic during that AGM. The elderly women were trying to get closer to Chubais to “see him last time.” The introduction speech of RAO UES BOD Chairman Alexander Voloshin was in line with the general feeling. “It is the last meeting before the decease of RAO,” Voloshin said gravely. But it was Financial Director Sergei Dubinin that stole the show. Dubinin made clear to holders that they would get no more money from RAO UES, i.e. the holders were recommended to vote against dividend. Then the floor went to the holders.

Unlike previous years, they used this chance to thank RAO UES, and booked a place in the history by their gratitude. They also thanked the management for the lunch provided first time this year. The lunch was demanded in 2007 and given in 2008.

All issues of the order of business were approved.

“I don’t like reforms, these actions are pleasant neither for the reformed nor for the reformer,” Chubais confessed in the end. Asked what he will do after July 1, when RAO UES is reorganized, Chubais said he will sleep for “at least two years.” Chubais didn’t specify the office he will choose for this purpose.
