Kvantrishvili Was Killed for Salary
Moscow detectives have completed investigation of the assassination of Otari Kvantrishvili, the founder of Russia’s Sportsmen Party. Only the killer, ex-officer of internal forces Alexei Sherstobitov (Lesha Soldat) will appear before the court. The person who had ordered the crime and its mastermind - the leaders of Orekhovo-Medvedkovo gang – were killed long ago.
The most sensational portion of the investigated case is the murder of entrepreneur Otari Kvantrishvili. According to detectives, Kvantrishvili had attempted to grab a few enterprises, where the Moscow Godfather Sergei Timofeev (Silvester) had stakes. Chairman of Lev Yashin Fund and founder of Athletes of Russia Party, which political purpose was to “restore the rule of law in the country” paid by his life for that attempt.
Once ordered to kill, Sherstobitov chose for it Krasnopresnenskie bathhouse favored by Kvantrishvili. He shot the businessman from Anschuts rifle from the garret of the building located opposite the bathhouse April 5, 1994.
The killer usually worked for the monthly salary of $50,000, but he received the bonus for Kvantrishvili’s murder.
Silvester, who had ordered the crime, didn’t survive the explosion staged the same year in Moscow, and Lesha Soldat killed the intermediary, ex-officer of KGB Grigory Gusyatinsky (Grisha Severny) in a year by order of a new Orekhovo boss Oleg Pylev.
The list of murders committed by Soldat is long. The last assassination mentioned in the files dates January 19, 1997, when Dolls Night Club owner Iosif Glotser was killed at the steps of his club. The murder was arranged by Oleg Pylev, who was condemned to the life sentence in 2007.
The forthcoming trial in the Moscow City Court will be the second for Sherstobitov. He was sentenced to 13 years in March for murders and attempted murders.
