Israel Confirmed Nevzlin’s Citizenship
Israeli High Court of Justice has overruled the claim of right defenders and journalists Yuli Nudelman and Eliezer Shimoni, seeking to invalidate the refusal of Ministry of the Interior to rescind Israeli citizenship of Yukos former holder Leonid Nevzlin and set into motion his extradition to Russia. According to Nevzlin and his lawyers, the award has confirmed groundless of the accusations brought against the businessman in Russia.
Yuli Nudelman petitioned the Israeli High Court of Justice against Israeli Ministry of the Interior, legal adviser Mazous, who supervises prosecutors of the country, and Leonid Nevzlin far back in 2006. Another claimant was Eliezer Shimoni, who later joined the process. The court tried the case in March. The demand of the claimants was to explain the reasons that prevent the country’s Ministry of the Interior from depriving Nevzlin of citizenship granted in 2003.

The thing is that the repatriate certificate that Nevzlin filled in Israel September 21, 2003 doesn’t mention any criminal cases initiated against him in Russia. So, the claimants sought to initiate Nevzlin’s extradition to Russia.

Israeli High Court of Justice has promulgated the award via its web without convening the meeting. The suit was overruled and the claimants committed to pay to Nevzlin roughly $4,300 each to cover his legal costs. According to Nevzlin and his lawyers, the award has confirmed groundless of the accusations brought against the businessman in Russia. But Nudelman thinks different. The award isn’t the final one, the police and the prosecutors are yet to decide on his application filed against the Israeli citizenship of Nevzlin, Nudelman specified.
