Peace, Love, Gay
The arrangers of gay parades in Moscow vowed yesterday to review the tactics of holding the parades in May, as such events were inevitably banned by authorities and dispersed in the past two years. Moscow leadership promised to suppress any unsanctioned rallies and the Orthodox community pledged to back up this effort of bureaucrats.
The Organizing Committee of 2008 Parade has decided to “drastically change tactics and activities,” said Nikolay Alekseev, who arranges all gay parades in Moscow. It was announced yesterday that the month of Moscow gay parade begins May 1.
“Far back on April 18, we lodged ten notifications about holding public events on May 1 and 2. On April 22, we filed another 15 applications for May 3, 4 and 5. In the nearest time, we intend to notify Moscow authorities about the processions of sexual minorities five times a day till the end of May,” Alekseev said.
Overall, they will file 155 applications for gay parades to the City Hall within a month, the Organizing Committee calculated. Should they all be rejected, the arrangers will appeal the ban in the Tver Court, in the Moscow City Court and then in the European Court of Human Rights.
“We will show to Europe’s Themis that the homosexuals in Moscow are banned from expressing their position any day in any form at any street and anytime,” Alekseev explained.
Moscow authorities warned in advance they would turn down any and all applications for the gay parades.
