Interfax, LexisNexis Agreed to Cooperate
Interfax announced yesterday the start of cooperation with U.S. LexisNexis. The users of System of Complex Analysis of News (SCAN) that Interfax created past year will get access to resources of one of the global information leaders. This move will strengthen Interfax standing on Russia’s market of online libraries worth at least $50 million to $60 million a year.
Interfax and LexisNexis (LN) announced yesterday they had sealed an agreement to jointly promote their information systems in Russia. “The users of our SCAN database will get access to LN,” specified Interfax Executive Director Vladimir Gerasimov.

SCAN that is the online database for mass media monitoring and analysis was created in late past year and has attracted just a few hundred subscribers. But Public.ru Internet library has roughly 1,500 subscribers, according to its General Director Miroslav Makstenek, Medialogia has over 1,000, says its General Director Nina Grigorieva, and the subscriber base of Integrum is said to equal 1,000 to 1,500 as well.

“Cooperation with LN will enable Interfax to win a leading standing on the market of online libraries,” Gerasimov said, evaluating the market worth at $50 million to $60 million. But Grigorieva views this estimate too pessimistic and gives the amount of roughly $70 million. The market stepped up 40 percent past year and the growth of at least 50 percent is predicted for this year, she specified.

Interfax Group emerged in 1989; it unites national, regional and branch news agencies operating in Russia, CIS, China and Central Europe. The 2007 revenues are estimated at roughly $60 million, the owners are top managers, including General Director Mikhail Komissar.
