Davydenko Reached Semifinal in Miami
Nikolay Davydenko of Russia has reached the semifinal at the Sony Ericsson Open tennis tournament in Key Biscayne, Florida, to face victorious Andy Roddick of the United States. Svetlana Kuznetsova and Vera Zvonareva lost their semifinals.
It will be a tough Sony Ericsson semifinal for Nikolay Davydenko. His opponent is Andy Roddick, who has already stolen the show this year by seeing off Roger Federer in the quarter-final. Roddick has now won two of 17 matches against the Swiss and all five matches against Davydenko.

For Davydenko, who crashed Janko Tipsarevic (6-2 6-1) in the previous standoff, it will be the third semifinal of the year – Nikolay played in the semifinals of Doha and Dubai, but failed to progress there.

In the women’s section, Svetlana Kuznetsova suffered a shocking loss (6-3 5-7 3-6) to defending champ Serena Williams, who is heading for her fifth Miami title. The Russian led the game in the first set and was nearing the victory in the second set at the score of 5-5. But the American was evidently in the battling mood that day her back injury notwithstanding. .

Another disappointment of Russia is the failure of Vera Zvonareva to Serbian Jelena Jankovic (1-6 4-6) in the evening match. So, the Russians won’t play in the Sony Ericsson Open women’s final this year.
