Murder Orderer Detained in Ecuador
Businessman Konstantin Bratchikov has been expelled from Ecuador. Bratchkov is charged with ordering the murder of Almaz-Antey Acting General Director Igor Klimov and Prommashinstrument CEO Elena Neshcheret. The lawyers of businessman claim he has been abducted in Ecuador and secretly delivered to Moscow.
The killers of Almaz-Antey Acting General Director Igor Klimov, who had been shot dead in Moscow in June of 2003, and of St. Petersburg Prommashinstrument CEO Elena Neshcheret that had been knifed in October of 2003 were discovered thanks to the last effort of Klimov. The wounded-to-death businessman was strong enough to pull out a gun from the killer.

Before moving to Moscow, Klimov had been the resident of St. Petersburg and one of the chiefs of Ladoga Investment Company, which had been buying out the stakes in industrial enterprises. The gun coupled with the business contacts of the killed led the detectives to the gang of Evgeny Mankov.

Condemned to the life sentence, Mankov told investigators that the crimes had been ordered by Konstantin Bratchikov, Klimov’s former partner in Ladoga Co.

Bratchkov admitted the involvement but claimed he had been informed about Klimov’s intention to kill him and told Stanislav Tyurin about the problem. Tyurin promised to sort it out without specifying the exact method.

The Trial Jury of Moscow City Court acquitted Bratchikov and Tyurin in August of 2007 but the prosecutors appealed the award in the RF Supreme Court and the case was forwarded for another consideration.

Moscow City Court again focused on the case in late December of 2007, that time in absence of the accused. It emerged that Bratchikov was hiding in Ecuador’s Quito, willing to escape to the United States from there.

The police detained Bratchikov February 29 near the entry to the U.S. Consulate. Despite that the local judge promised to free him for absence of any charges, the businessman was first delivered to the airport, where he was handed over to St. Petersburg detectives and flew to Matrosskaya Tishina detention facility of Moscow.
