United Russia Club May Carry on Putin Legacy
The United Russia Party is considering the creation of the Russia 2020 Club to develop legislation to continue the development programs announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin. It would be the party's third club, joining the Center for Socio-Conservative Policy and November 4. The new club will be discussed at the meeting of the supreme council and presidium of the part's general council today. The idea was inspired by Putin's speech before the State Council last month, when he practically outlined state priorities through 2020. United Russia took this “Putin Plan” as its party program and needs a format to pursue its goals.
The club would serve as a forum for discussion, would issue expert opinions and proposals and would work with the government to provide personnel to implement projects. It would have a closed membership limited in number. Party chairman Boris Gryzlov, secretary of the presidium of the general council Vladislav Volodin, head of the executive committee Andrey Vorobyev, Federation Council member Andrey Turchak and State Duma members Konstantin Rykov and Robert Shlegel would be among the members.
Coordinator and presidium member of the Center for Socio-Conservative Policy Yury Shuvalov said that the club may be part of his organization. He said that he was assigned by Boris Gryzlov to create a group to create suggestions for program and them create draft laws for introduction into the Duma. Shuvalov said that deputies will work on those drafts during the party's fifth congress. The party will also present its tax and industrial policy to the president on March 13.
