Gazprom Looks for an Easy Route to Sakhalin-3
Gazprom needs another gift from Dmitry Medvedev before he steps down as the BOD chairman of the gas monopoly. In addition to being presented with Chayanda field, Gazprom wants three blocks of Sakhalin-3.
Dmitry Medvedev, who is the first vice premier in Russia and the most probable successor to Vladimir Putin, left Yakutia for Khabarovsk yesterday. In this tour, Medvedev is accompanied by Alexander Ananenkov, deputy chairman of Gazprom management committee. Never wasting the time, Ananenkov already prompted Medvedev to promise the Chayanda field to monopoly as the farewell gift. The resources of Chayanda amount to 1.26 trillion cu meters of gas.
But it emerged that Gazprom needs three blocks of Sakhalin-3 in addition to Chayanda. “It is desirable to solve the issue of sanctioning Gazprom for the exploration of Ayashsky, Odoptinsky and Kirinsky blocks of Sakhalin-3 project by the end of first quarter,” Ananenkov said.
The respective licenses are yet in the undistributed fund. Under Gazprom’s estimate, the probable resources of Kirinsky block reach 930 billion cu meters of gas, Ayashsky and Odoptinsky blocks have 400 billion cu meters overall. The analysts don’t doubt the monopoly’s success, predicting it will be achieved at the cost of Rosneft that is also eyeing the lucrative blocks.
