Italian Eni Will Bid to Drill in Krasnoyarsk
The Italian Eni Co. is ready to participate in its first auction for a license in Russia. It is seeking, through its Russian subsidiary OOO Eni Energy, to develop the Olenchiminskoe field in Krasnoyarsk Territory. It will face off against Dmitry Bosov's ZAO Pacific Oil resources for the right on February 23. Olenchiminskoe is a D1 Class deposit with reserves of 43 million tons of oil and 121 billion cu. m. of natural gas. The starting price at the auction will be 175 million rubles. Eni Energy also applied for the auction for the Tanachinskoe and Moktakonskoe deposits, scheduled for the same day. Those deposits will not be put up for sale, however, since no one else filed to participate in the auctions.
Eni is active in Russia already. It, in partnership with the Italian Enel, was among the few foreign companies that were able to buy YUKOS properties at its bankruptcy auctions, thanks to the support of Gazprom. After buying the Russian gas companies Urengoil Inc. and Arctcigaz, Eni let Gazprom have an option for the purchase of 51-percent shares in them. Eni also bought 20 percent of Gazprom Neft from Enel and agreed to resell it to Gazprom. Foreign company ies are not allowed to develop oil fields with reserves over 70 million tons.
Alltek Interregional Fuel Co., owner of Pacific Oil Resources, owns fours deposits bordering on Olenchiminskoe, as well as two licenses in Sakhalin and the Kumzhinskoe gas condensate deposit, through various subsidiaries.
