Gazprom and Rospan Agree on Transport
TNK-BP has received the first dividends from its improved relations with Gazprom after selling 62 percent of the Kovykta deposit project. After four years of negotiations with the monopoly, an agreement was reached on January 25 on a connection for TNK-BP's largest remaining natural gas asset, Rospan International, to the Gazprom pipeline. At Rospan, they expect this to mean almost a threefold increase in production. Gazprom also sees future benefits in the deal.
The technical conditions have been set to connect the Novo-Urengoi and Eastern Urengoi deposits to the Unified Gas Supply System. The location of the connection and volume of gas pumping have been specified. Planning of the additional infrastructure needed will begin right away. That will allow full-scale development of the deposits.
The connection site will be near the Purovskaya compression station, 140 km. closer to the deposit than the location discussed in 2005. TNK-BP will begin building a pipeline and processing facilities for its gas condensate in 2009 and finish it in 2012, according to TNK-BP vice president for marketing, delivery, trading and transport of natural gas and gas condensate Alexander Berezikov. Gazprom has agreed to accept 3.4 billion cu. m. of gas beginning this year, up from the 1.2 billion cu. m. earlier discussed. In 2012, that volume will be increased to 9 billion cu. m. and the company increase the volume to 17.4 billion cu. m. by 2017.
Observers say that this is most likely the beginning of a broader alliance about which more will become known in the summer. Rosneft and NOVATEK are also expected to raise their gas production significantly. That volume will also be included in the Unified Gas Supply System.
