Dmitry Medvedev: The Legal Candidate
Presidential candidate Dmitry Medvedev will announce the planks of his campaign at the congress of the Association of Russian Lawyers on January 29, with Russian President Vladimir Putin and the top members of the enforcement arm of the government in attendance.
The nonprofit organization is managed by a presidium that includes chief of the executive staff Sergey Sobyanin, Interior Minister Rashid Nurgaliev, FSB director Nikolay Patrushev, Federal Punishment Implementation Service head Yury Kalinin, Prosecutor General Yury Chaika, Justice Minister Vladimir Ustinov, FKSN director Viktor Cherkesov, chairman of the Constitutional Court Valery Zorkin, chairman of the Supreme Arbitration Court Anton Ivanov, chairman of the Supreme Court Vyacheslav Lebedev and head of the Audit Chamber Sergey Stepashin. Putin is the holder of membership card No. 1 and frequently takes part in presidium meetings.
Medvedev was not present at the meeting of the association's presidium yesterday that approved the agenda for the next meeting, where he will appear. Medvedev led the meeting before that one.
Every region of Russia will be represented at the congress by two delegates who were chosen at the end of last year. The delegates will include some of the brightest lights of the Russian legal world.
Also at the congress, speaker of the Federation Council Sergey Mironov, presidential representative for the Volga District Alexander Konovalov, Defense Minister Anatoly Serdyukov and Deputy Prosecutor General Alexander Gutsan will be indicted into the presidium of the association.
