Gas Price Ready for Exchange Record
The gas exchange price at Mezhregiongaz floor may surpass the physiologically vital mark of $100 per a thousand cu meters today, December 20, 2007. The basic reason of potential growth is the 25-percent scheduled surge in administered domestic prices for gas starting from January 1, 2008.
Mezhregiongaz holds on its floor the decade online regular trading with supplies due January 1 through January 10. The gas price is expected to break domestic record and climb above the physiologically vital $100 per a thousand cu meters.
At December 14 trading, January supplies, the quotes set the record of 2,411.45 rubles ($98.71) per a thousand cu meters. The highest price for the gas at the Gas Distribution Station (GDS) was paid by Nizhni Novgorod Fuel and Energy Co., which is controlled by Gazprom.
Tomorrow, the buyers will be consumers from central Russia. They will pay even more for the gas, as the rates for shipping gas of independent producers go up by 19.4 percent January 1.
“The key reason for price growth is the increase in administered prices for gas,” people in Mezhregiongaz said, adding that it is yet too early to speak of any trends or make any forecasts. The forthcoming trading is held for supplies during New Year holidays, so no surge in demand is expected. Most informative will be the December 24 trading with the supplies due January 11 through 20, representatives of Mezhregiongaz explained.
