New Values Emerging on Job Market
High salary, interesting work and growth potential are becoming more important every year in choosing a career, as the importance of office location, working conditions and benefits dwindles. That was the main conclusion of research carried out by the Kelly Services employment agency in October and November in eight Russian cities.
Salary was most important for workers in production (30% said so), retail (28.6%) and IT (28.1%). Interesting work was key for specialists in marketing, advertising and PR (25%), consulting (24.4%), IT (25%) and law (26%). Career growth was listed at the top by consultants (21.8%), financiers and accountants (21.2%).
Kelly claims that companies compete for workers not only on the basis of salary, but with benefits as well. Respondents to it survey listed voluntary medical insurance (23%), free lunch (14.47%) and paid cellular communications (13.79%) as standard benefits. Workers in international companies had broader concepts of benefits, mentioning health insurance for family members, other forms of insurance, a driver and membership in a fitness center as well.
Office workers think of changing their jobs most often in December and January. The easiest way for a company to keep its employees is through salary increases. Other factors uncovered by Kelly include the company's reputation and the interest level of the work.
