China’s Mazda to Reach Urals
Elex Polus car dealer will set in 2008 to assembling Chinese Haima3, the analogue of Mazda3, at AMUR facilities in the Urals. Incom Avto Urals intends to become a co-owner of the plant.
China’s carmakers are yet unable to win benefits for industrial assembly of their cars in Russia. But even production at ordinary conditions would be more advantageous than the import. The maximum duties on component deliveries equal 20 percent, while the duties on imports of ready cars range from 60 percent to 70 percent.
Haima3 will be assembled at Automobiles and Motors of the Urals (AMUR), said Igor Lisyutin, general director and co-owner of Elex Polus. The Haima plants produce Mazda3 analogue in China under the license, while Elex Polus imports these cars to Russia.
According to Lisyutin, the assembly of Haima3 will be launched here in 2008. The initial output is estimated at roughly 20,000 cars; the price will be somewhat between $13,000 and $14,000.
They have attained only the verbal understanding with Elex Polus, pointed out AMUR General Director Valentin Vertiprakhov. The plans are to begin by component assembly but proceed to welding, assembling and painting the body. The entire term of the project is estimated at two or three years with investment budget of up to $80 million.
