Georgia Joins Election Battle in Russia
Georgian Foreign Ministry released yesterday the statement dedicated to election campaign in Russia. According to Tbilisi, Moscow is attacking the OSCE, the State Duma elections are mere comedy and there is no chance to spot even the shade of democracy in Russia.
The response of Tbilisi followed the statement of Russia’s Foreign Ministry calling a farce presidential elections in Georgia. It looks like even the strain of domestic election battle in both countries doesn’t suffice for drawing away their authorities from the mutual standoff.

According to Georgia’s Foreign Ministry, Russia’s elections to the State Duma will be held in the best Soviet traditions, as the international observers won’t monitor them.

In interpretation of foreign authority of Georgia, the hysteria that Moscow stirred up in respect of Tbilisi, the restrictions on presence of international observers during the State Duma elections as well as Russia’s permanent attacks on the OSCE institutions are aimed at diverting the world community and the Russians from complete absence of even a shade of democracy in politics. The main proof of this assumption, the Tbilisi diplomats went on, is the soap comedy around forthcoming parliamentary elections in Russia coupled with promoting the notion of the country's national hero.

The timing of this attack of Georgia’s Foreign Ministry is interesting. There, the opposition announced yesterday the start of aggressive election campaign, vowing to hold rallies of several thousand Sunday. The promised slogan is: “Georgia Without Saakashvili!”
