France Telecom Approached the Inter-City Communication in Russia
Russia’s subsidiary of France Telecom, Equant, is emerging as the fifth telecom operator in Russia. It is due to start rendering services early next year, covering mostly the corporative clients. The analysts predict it to win from 2 percent to 3 percent on the market worth a bit less than $3 billion a year.
Russia’s division of France Telecom, Equant announced Friday it obtained the telecom codes. The services will be provided under the Orange brand that France Telecom uses on mobile and telecom markets worldwide.
The company has invested over $200 million during two years to establish the telecom net, said Equant general director Dmitry Ivannikov. “In future, we plan to win 10 percent of the corporate segment of telecom market and the leading standing on data transmission market.”
Alternative operator Equant is a division of Orange Business Services (France Telecom owns 100 percent). In Russia, Equant renders the system integration and business communication services to corporate clients and sells telecom equipment. Orange is represented in 37 big cities of Russia and has three offices in CIS – Kiev, Alma-Ata and Minsk. Russia’s turnover of Equant is estimated at $250 million to $300 million for 2007.
