Britain’s Intelligence Arrested Former Soldier for Spying for Russia
A former Britain’s soldier of the Royal Armored Corps, Peter Stephen Hill, was arrested in Leeds for spying for Russia. According to Britain’s police, Hill wanted to pass the classified military documents to Russia’s intelligence.
The new spying scandal of Russia and Britain was reported Saturday. The Yorkshire Post and The Sunday Telegraph announced the police detained former army trooper and today’s risk manager Peter Hill, 23, on spying suspicion past Wednesday.
According to the media, the arrest was the result of an effort that lasted for a few months. Having suspected Hill of intention to sell secret files, the detectives sent an undercover police officer, who introduced himself as a Kremlin agent and offered to buy a few documents. Hill agreed in no time and was detained November 7.
Soon after the arrest, the journalists revealed Hill’s personal page at MySpace Internet portal. Of interest is that the film version of Tom Clancy’s The Hunt for Red October is his favorite film.
Officials also charged Hill under the Explosive Substances Act for allegedly possessing suspicious materials. But that case is yet unrelated to spying allegations.
