Russia Won’t Halt Weapon Supplies to Mid East
Russia’s President Vladimir Putin didn’t miss the chance to rebuff the U.S. accusations of destabilizing policy in the Middle East. The supplies of weapons to the region will continue, Putin announced during the sitting of Commission on Military and Technical Cooperation.
The yesterday’s concern of the Commission was to draw up preliminary results of this year’s military and technical cooperation with foreign partners. The armaments export is forecasted to reach $8 billion vs. $6.5 billion past year.
But President Putin opened the meeting not by deliberating on promising future for trading in weapons. Instead, Putin made a statement evidently targeted at the U.S. administration.
“Russia has observed, is observing and will observe all international commitments in the military and technical field, in particular, the current regulations for export control,” Putin announced. “At the same time, any attempts to impose on us any other restrictions based on unilateral or politically-driven assessments couldn’t be and wouldn’t be taken into consideration.”
This heated rhetoric of the president apparently roots in the recent sitting of the U.S. House Committee on Foreign Affairs dedicated to the U.S. policy in the Middle East. Then, U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice openly criticized Russia’s weapons deliveries to Syria.
