Putin’s Call-In Show Breaks No Records
Russian President Vladimir Putin’s sixth call-in show attracted a large TV audience but failed to beat the record of 2001 when almost 70 percent of television viewers watched the show, pollsters said Friday.
TNS Gallup Media released data on Thursday’s call-in show of Vladimir Putin. The popularity of Vladimir Putin’s annual program has been on a decline since 2001, according to the statistics.

In 2001, 52 percent of television viewers in Moscow watched the call-in show on First Channel and 17 percent on Rossiya, making it 69 percent. The audience was 62 percent in 2002, 59 percent in 2003, 56 percent in 2005 and 49 percent in 2007.

However, the show’s audience in Moscow grew this year for the first time in the past five years probably because this was the last call-in show for President Putin in this capacity. On October 18, 60.6 percent of television viewers watched the show. In Russia on the whole, the share of those who watched the show dropped from 73 percent in 2001 to 57 percent in 2007.

Unlike call-in shows, Vladimir Putin’s New Year addresses on First Channel still break records every year attracting between 70 and 80 percent of viewers.
