The Russians Advance at the Kremlin Cup
After a tough fight, the tournament’s first seed Nikolay Davydenko has reached the second round at the Kremlin Cup tennis competition that is currently held in Moscow Olympic Stadium. Marat Safin and Elena Dementieva are through as well.
Once world number one, charismantic Marat Safin has advanced to the second round at the Kremlin Cup tennis tournament. He needed two sets (7-6 (7-2), 7-5) to outclass his compatriot Denis Matsukevich, who is currently the 422nd in the ATP rankings. Now Safin will play Russia’s Igor Andreev or Nicolas Mahut of France.
Same Tuesday, Nikolay Davydenko defeated France’s Jo-Wilfried Tsonga all problems with his health and the following break of a week notwithstanding, Igor Kunitsyn beat Diego Hartfield of Argentina, while Dmitry Tursunov overwhelmed Mischa Zverev of Germany. But Teimuraz Gabashvili yielded to Stepanek Radek and became the first loss of the Russians at the Kremlin Cup.
As to the women’s section of the tournament, Russia’s Elena Vesnina, Vera Dushevina and Elena Dementieva have progressed there, while Svetlana Kuznetsova, Anna Chakvetadze, Maria Sharapova and U.S. Serena Williams will join the fight straight from the second round. Kuznetsova and Sharapova will play today, and the matches of Williams and Chakvetadze are slated for tomorrow.
