SVO Express Train to Change Railway Station
A direct express train to Sheremetyevo Airport will depart in January 2008 from Belorussky Railway Station instead of the initially planned Savelovsky Railway Station. The overall budget project stands at $256.4 million; the tickets will cost 200 rubles each, so the pay-back period is estimated at five years.
A direct express train to Sheremetyevo will go from Belorussky Railway Station, Aeroexpress, which is the project operator for express railway delivery of passengers to the airport, officially announced yesterday, September 27, 2007. “We have thought it would be faster and more comfortable for passengers to get at Belorussky Railway Station than at Savelovsky one,” sources with the company explained.
As before, the passengers choosing Savelovsky Railway Station, in which terminal Aeroexpress has invested 250 million rubles, will go by an express train to Lobnya station and than take a bus to Sheremetyevo.
The transfer to Belorussky Railway Station won’t affect construction of a branch line that will cross Savelovsky.
Aeroexpress is the joint venture of Transgroup (74 percent) and International Airport Sheremetyevo (26 percent). The project budget equals $256.4 million, but it includes the funds of Russian Railways (RZD) to construct a branch line.
Representatives of International Airport Sheremetyevo said the $95-million railway terminal will be finally constructed in the airport in January 2008. Its capacity will reach 7 million passengers a year. A ticket will cost roughly 200 rubles. Aeroexpress CEO Vladimir Petrov expects the company’s costs ($176 million) to be paid back in five years.
