Nanotechnology Makes Headway
Russia’s Industry and Energy Ministry has approved strategy for electronic industry’s advance in the country, which sets forth investments of roughly 250 billion rubles. Under the strategy, nanotechnologic devices ensuring direct wireless contact of human brain and environment will be launched into production by 2025.
Industry and Energy Ministry has approved the strategy to develop electronic industry up to 2025. To begin with, it is planed to invest 49 billion rubles, including 30 billion rubles of budget funds, in microelectronic industry from 2007 to 2011. The second stage (2012 to 2015) sets forth investments of 63 billion rubles and the amount will step up to 135 billion rubles in 2016 to 2025.

The first target to attain is to upgrade technological base and advance microelectronics to from 0.35 mcm to 0.25 mcm. Russia will be able to reach 0.13 mcm, which is today’s level of mass production, only by 2010.

The Rubicon of 0.09 mcm that divides microelectronics and nanotechnology could be crossed no sooner than in 2011, while nanotechnology of 0.018 mcm will be mastered by 2025.

The conclusion of strategy masterminds is that attracting investments and modern technology calls for cooperation with developed nations. In view of this assumption, perhaps, it is proposed to implement the first stage of the strategy together with Belarus.
