BBDO Russia Checked for Legality
// Regular software check paralyzed the company’s office
The visit of law-enforcement authorities to BBDO Russia promo group, which paralyzed the office’s work on Thursday, turned out to be a regular check. BBDO’s management did not provide the licenses for the software they use. Consequently, the check will last for several days more.
Officers of Moscow’s Central District’s police department visited the office of BBDO Russia Group. The department’s spokesman Sergei Prudnikov said that BBDO’s management did not provide all requested information. Thus, the check was prolonged for one more day. It can be extended up to 10 days. Afterwards, the prosecutor’s office might extend it up to one month.

Questions arose concerning the legality of the software used by the company. The police wanted to know whether BBDO had licenses, but these documents were not in the office.

Representative of Microsoft’s Russian office Evgeny Danilov said that copyright holders, including Microsoft, sign global agreements with transnational corporations, which allow them to use licensed software in all their local offices. Meanwhile, U.S. holding Omnicom, which owns BBDO Russia, will soon send the copies of its global agreements with copyright holders to Moscow.
