Russneft Still Leaderless
Russneft shareholders were supposed to approve senior vice president of the company Oleg Gordeev as president yesterday, but none of them showed up for the vote. Sources say that Gordeev had been agreed on with the Oleg Deripaska affiliates that officially are buying the company. Analysts say that this, and the order for the arrest of former president Mikhail Gutseriev, are likely signs that the conditions of the deal are changing.
The shareholders expected were the new ones, of course. Observers note that the Federal Antimonopoly Service has not approved the deal yet, so, even though Gutseriev has received $3 billion for the company, it is early for the new owners to make changes to its corporate structure. Deripaska himself continues to insist that the deal has not been competed and Gutseriev has not received money from him.
A Kommersant source noted that Gordeev, who is already the acting president of Russneft, does not have full rights there. Some documents concerning the company's operations can only be signed by the other senior vice president, Sergey Bakhir, who is under investigation ,although still working. The status of acting president is not recognized under Russian law.
