Samsung Will Do Its Own Importing in Russia
Samsung Electronics, one of the largest suppliers of home appliances and electronics to Russia, will begin importing its products itself. It already imports its audio and video equipment, and will convert to full importing this autumn. Buyers will no longer be able to find 15-20 percent savings on underground Samsung products imports. The South Korean company's competitors are following its example.
Samsung produces domestic appliances, digital, audio and video appliances, computers and cellular telephones. It is present in 56 countries. According to GFK Rus, the company occupied 26.3 percent of the cell phone market, 30 percent of the market for LCD monitors, 20.7 percent of the market for liquid crystal televisions, 44 percent of refrigerators, 20 percent of vacuum cleaners and 43.2 percent of video cameras in Russia in the first half of the year. About 48 percent of the company's sales take place in the Eldorado, M. Video, Tekhnosila and Mir chains of stores.
A Sony CIS spokesman said that that company will institute direct imports “in the nearest future.” The Russian office of Philips announced its plans to do the same in June.
