Perm PM Leaves Wanted List
Perm Government’s Prime Minister Nikolay Bukhvalov has refuted the reports that he fled from detectives investigating the tax evasion case. The official said he had no intention to hide and he is currently in Bulgaria, where he enjoys the vacation together with his family.
”I learned yesterday morning that I had been added to the wanted list and it surprised me very much,” Bukhvalov told Kommersant by phone. “Such actions of police are beyond my understanding and I resent them.” According to Bukhvalov, his leave was agreed on with Governor Oleg Chirkunov, and the office of regional cabinet has the phone number to get in touch with him. The family trip to Bulgaria was planned beforehand, Bukhvalov pointed out.
The tax-evasion case against companies related to Bukhvalov was opened past year. According to investigators, ZhBK-1 that he had headed before being appointed deputy governor of Perm Region in 2004 used to enter into contracts with some dummy firms. The amount of taxes not paid as a result was roughly 9 million rubles. Of it, 2.5 million rubles didn't reach the budget exactly during Bukhvalov’s office.
The case was terminated in spring once around 4.5 million rubles went to the budget. But it was revived in July in the wake of inspecting visit of the RF Prosecutor General Office to the region. Bukhvalov was questioned as the suspect and was summoned to interrogation slated for July 16. He was also notified about the intention to present charges to him on July 17. But the regional PM didn’t show up before the detectives that day.
Yesterday, Bukhvalov said he would be on vacation till September 7 and set to work on Monday, September 10.
