Lost on Vacation
Suspected in tax evasion, Russia’s Perm Region’s PM Nikolay Bukhvalov has been added to the wanted list. The flat and office of the region’s Culture Minister Oleg Oshchepkov were searched under the criminal case opened for non-purpose spending of budget money. The cases against top-rank bureaucrats of Perm Region were initiated during the special probe of the RF Prosecutor General Office into the local authorities.
Head of Perm Region’s government, Nikolay Bukhvalov, has been added to the wanted list for another failure to appear before investigators. Bukhvalov’s lawyer Mikhail Popov said yesterday he knew nothing about whereabouts of his client.

The cause for chasing Bukhvalov emerged in time of July probe of the Prosecutor General Office into activities of regional authorities, which led to nine criminal cases. Regional Education Minister Nikolay Karpushin, Industry Minister Valery Seredin are on trial now. Perm Region’s Governor Oleg Chirkunov has had a narrow escape.

The reaction of regional authorities to adding Bukhvalov to the wanted list was genuine surprise. The government’s chairman, they said, is on vacation from August 15 to September 7.

As to Oleg Oshchepkov, his flat and office were searched under the criminal case initiated for non-purpose spending of budget money. With no tenders held to the effect, his wife’s firm, Ozon, was attracted to the cultural events funded by the region. The overall worth of contracts made with Ozon reached 497,000 rubles.
