Indosat Acquisition to Be Deliberated at the Highest Level
Representatives of Alfa Group will go to Indonesia in September as part of the delegation of Russia’s President Vladimir Putin. There, Alfa Group hopes to agree on the purchase of stocks of Indonesian operator Indosat. The analysts forecast the negotiations to bear fruit, as Alfa Group is very skilled in lobbying its interests at the highest level.
Official visit of Russia’s President Vladimir Putin to Indonesia begins September 6. Timed to the president’s tour, the Russian-Indonesian Business Forum will be attended by spokesmen of various divisions of Alfa Group, including Altimo Executive Director Alexey Reznikovich and Alfa Bank President Pyotr Aven.

“Alfa will attempt to use the president’s visit to agree with Indonesian government on the parity buyout of 41 percent in Indosat from Singapore Temasek subsidiary - Singapore Technologies Telemedia," a source that arranges the event said on condition of anonymity.

Altimo Vice President Kirill Babaev confirmed that Altimo would take part in Russian-Indonesian Business Forum, while the RF Chamber of Commerce Vice President Georgy Petrov said the list of businessmen to attend the event sets forth Aven’s name.

From time to time, top managers of Altimo voice the plans to expand to South and South-East Asia. In 2006, the holding launched offices in Jakarta (Indonesia) and Hanoi (Vietnam). In March of 2007, Altimo raised $1.5 billion with Deutsche Bank to buy out mobile assets in Asia. The holding has acquired 90 percent in Cambodia’s Sotelco for $10 million to $20 million early this month.
