Neva Express Case Put On 2 Tracks
It emerged yesterday that the case opened in the wake of the crash of Neva Express train has the first suspects. In line with the ultra-left lead of detectives, Prosecutor General Office initiated detention of two anarchists from St. Petersburg. Meanwhile, investigators of Novgorod Division of FSB arrested a Chechen native when probing into the second lead, i.e. into the possible involvement of North Caucasian extremists. The accusations have been presented under neither of the leads so far.
Neva Express train went off the rails near the village of Malaya Vishera, about 500 km (310 miles) north-west of Moscow August 13, 2007. An explosion derailed the train, traveling between Moscow and St. Petersburg, injuring dozens of passengers but killing no one.

Khasan Didigov, 25, who is the resident of Novgorod Region’s Chudovo-town, has become the first of Chechens to attract close attention of local detectives probing into the railway explosion. Past Sunday, Didigov was handed over to the FSB and taken to Novgorod.

The Chechen has become the third person arrested on suspicion of Neva Express explosion. Past Saturday, Malovishersky District Court of Novgorod Region sanctioned the ten-day arrest of two volunteers of Peter League of Anarchists – Andrey Kalenov and Denis Zelenyuk. Sources with the court said they sustained the demand of prosecutors because the suspects are members of ultra-radical organization, have no permanent place of residence, remain unemployed and were previously brought to trial. Kalenov served the term for storing ammunition and Zelenyuk was charged with stirring up the inter-ethnic discord.
