Taiwan Assembler Prefers St. Petersburg
In tandem with Hewlett-Packard, one of the world biggest electronic assemblers, Foxconn, will construct a plant in St. Petersburg, funneling over $50 million into the facility. The plant will start with assembling desktop PCs of Hewlett-Packard for domestic market and is well expected to strengthen the standing of foreign PC assemblers in Russia.
Past week, Taiwan Foxconn held negotiations with St. Petersburg Committee for Economic Development, Industrial Policy and Trade; the subject matter of the talks was constructing a plant in St. Petersburg.
In tandem with Hewlett-Packard, Foxconn is willing to set up in St. Petersburg the world-class facilities that will assemble PCs, LCD monitors and other computer devices, said Andrey Korzhakov, who heads Foxconn office in Russia.
“The site area will be around 60,000 sq meters; the project investments may exceed $50 million,” Korzhakov specified. The company needs an area of 12 to 15 hectares located not far from the residential area and with developed transport infrastructure. Under the optimistic scenario, the construction could be launched already this fall and completed in a year.
