Shanghai Counterterrorist Cooperation
The active part of Counterterrorist Exercise of Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), Peace Mission 2007, ended in Chelyabinsk yesterday. Russia’s President Vladimir Putin, who attended the exercise, vowed to further strengthen armed forces of the country and announced the revival of airborne alert of strategic aviation in the distant regions of the world.
“The exercise went excellent, just excellent. Everything was in the absolutely coordinated mode of operation, no failures whatsoever,” Putin said when commenting on the maneuvers. The president praised Chelyabinsk Chebarkul training ground (that hosted the exercise) as “the best in Russia for sure and one of the best in Europe.”
Moreover, in further escalation of sabre-rattling rhetoric, the president pledged to proceed with developing the national armed forces and announced that, on August 17, Russia resumed combat alert of its strategic aviation in remote regions of the world.
“From 1992, Russia unilaterally terminated flights of strategic aviation in remote regions of combat actions. Not all states followed our example,” Putin emphasized. “It created certain problems for Russia’s security and, therefore, I resolved to resume flights of Russia’s strategic aviation on a permanent basis.”
