Russian Museums to Send 140 Pix to Germany
Four of Russia's largest museums will participate in the Bonjour Russland exhibit that will open on September 15 at the Kunst Palast Museum in Dusseldorf. The Hermitage, Pushkin Museum, Russian Museum and Tretyakov Gallery will provide 140 painting by French and Russian artists, including such prize works as The Dance by Henri Matisse, The Black Square by Kazimir Malevich, Portrait of Dr. Rey by Vincent Van Gogh and Bathing the Red Horse by Kuzma Petrov-Vodkin.
The most important movements in Russian art from the Itinerates to Cubo-Futurism and Suprematism will be represented in the exhibition, which is to illustrate the role of French painting in the formation of Russian art at the turn of the 20th century, as well as the innovativeness of Russian painting. The exhibition will cover the years 1860-1925, a period in which Russia was transformed from artistic provinciality to the homeland of the most radical artistic experiments. Several years ago, a similar exhibit was stage in Russia, entitled Cezanne and Russian Art.
