French President Drops In on Bushes during Vacation
French President Nicolas Sarkozy, vacationing in the United States, met with U.S. President George W. Bush at the residence of the American president's father, former president George H.W. Bush, in Kennebunkport, Maine. The visit marks the beginning of new warm relations between France and the U.S., after those relations hit a low under Sarkozy's predecessor Jacques Chirac. Sarkozy and his family are staying in a villa on Lake Winnipegosis, New Hampshire, just 50 miles from the Bush compound.
Sarlozy's wife Cecilia and daughters were sidelined by illness. The two presidents dines on hamburgers, hot dogs green salad, baked beans and cherry pie, a sharp contrast to the lobster and other delicacies Bush served Russian President Vladimir Putin and members of his delegation in the same location.

Bush and Sarkozy also spent 50 minutes in talks and afterwards made statements about the new “family” closeness between the countries. The presidents will meet again next month in New York during the UN General Assembly, showing conclusively that the “new entente” between the Russian leader, Chirac and former German chancellor Gerhard Schroeder is now lost to history.
