Samsung Emerged as 2nd Leader
By the Q2 results, South Korean Samsung became the world’s second-largest mobile phone vendor first time in history. According to Strategy Analytics report, Samsung outpaced Motorola, which deliveries shed from 51.9 million handsets to 35.5 million handsets.
The Q2 global supplies of mobile phones surged 11 percent on year to 258 million handsets, Strategy Analytics announced in the report. Samsung supplied 37.4 million mobile phones, 48.4 percent up on year. The Korean vendor widened its market share from 10.9 percent to 14.5 percent to emerge as the world’s second-largest supplier.

Motorola lost 31.6 percent, having reduced deliveries from 51.9 million handsets to 35.5 million handsets; its market share narrowed from 22.3 percent to 13.8 percent during the period. At the same time, the global leader, Nokia of Finland, maintained the winning status, having expanded to the record 39.1 percent on the market.

In the Moscow office of Motorola, they blame the failure to keep the No. 2 position on the business restructuring carried out because of the losses. Motorola posted the losses of $181 million in the Q1 and $209 million in the next quarter.

“The key reason of today’s situation with Motorola is poor balance of its product line. The company has failed to release best sellers after Razr and widen its presence in the middle and top segments,” said Euroset briefer Ochir Mandzhikov, adding that, in Euroset, Motorola sank from 27.8 percent in 2004 to 19.4 percent in 2006.
