Central Elections Committee to Train Pollsters
The Central Elections Commission has announced that the month remaining before election campaigns begin will be devoted to the training of election workers, CEC chairman Vladimir Churov has announced. The first practice election and vote count will be held at the CEC on August 7. A model polling station has already been set up at the CEC for that purpose.
Representatives of political parties will arrive at 9:00 a.m. on August 7 for training as observers. At 11:00, election workers will arrive for training. Seventeen political parties with fictitious names will compete for 12 offices. Employees of the Russian Center for the Study of Election Technology will cast absentee votes. Churov emphasized the importance of that procedure, since polling stations for those on business trips and vacations will be set up in railroad stations throughout Russia.
At 1:00 on August 7, counting of the votes will begin. The results of the count will be verified by the government automated system for elections. The entire procedure will be filmed, and that film will be distributed to regional election commissions and political parties. Russian President Vladimir Putin is expected to sign the order beginning the campaigning season on September 1.
