Vladimir Putin Sets New Goal for Russia
// To become a world leader in IT
Russian President Vladimir Putin set a new great goal for the country at the Security Council’s session on Wednesday. The president decided that Russia should become a world IT leader, and believes it can do it by 2015. Putin’s supporters estimated he might return to presidency by that time.
Russian President Vladimir Putin attended the Security Council’s session on Wednesday, where he discussed the strategy for developing the information community in Russia, and set a new dizzying goal – to become a world leader in IT by 2015.
“Russia now has all chances to enter the group of leaders of the global information space,” announced the president. Putin added that the countries which staked on developing IT took “far better positions in the world’s labor division, increased the state administration quality,” and have well-developed and competitive human resources.
Russia’s IT and Communications Minister Leonid Reiman said that every Russian village will have telephone connection by late 2009, and the Ministry will begin working on providing Internet access to every family since 2010. Putin’s supporters hope he will return to presidency in 2012, which means it will probably be the current president to listen to the report on Russia’s emerging as a world IT leader.
