Prices on Flour, Pasta, Canned Food Grow by 15%
Basic agricultural products (grain and oil-bearing seed) grew in price by 15 percent in the last two weeks. It led to massive growth of prices on the food market. Producers of flour, pasta, mayonnaise, confectionery, canned vegetables, and canned fish raised their sale prices by 10-15 percent this week.
Producers of flour, bread, pastry, pasta, canned vegetables, and canned fish said they were forced to raise their sale prices by 10-15 percent due to the growth of prices on the main ingredients for their products, -- seed oil and mustard oil.

It was caused by the unprecedented growth of prices on grain and oil-bearing seed (sunflower and mustard). These agricultural products are the main raw material for most types of food products.

Grain became more expensive by more than 10 percent in July, which is due to lower prognosis of harvest in Russia (76 million metric tons against 78 million metric tons in 2006), and the growth of prices on the international market.

Drastic increase in grain cost led to higher prices on flour. In the last two weeks of June, top-grade flour’s cost grew by 2,255 rubles, reaching 9,700 rubles per one metric ton. First-grade flour became more expensive by 2,055 rubles, up to 9,040 rubles per one metric ton.
