Vladimir Putin Speaks at Yuri Luzhkov’s Inauguration
Russian President Vladimir Putin attended Moscow Mayor Yuri Luzhkov’s inauguration on Friday, and spoke there twice, diverging from the speech written for him in advance. Although the mayor will be the same, it is likely that some Moscow officials will not return to office.
Moscow Mayor Yuri Luzhkov’s inauguration ceremony took place on Friday, in the City Hall on Tverskaya, 13. The inauguration was attended mostly by Moscow officials, as well as by Russian President Vladimir Putin. Almost no journalists were allowed to attend; they had to watch the ceremony on TV (TV Center company broadcasted it live).

The ceremony began with Mayor Luzhkov’s swearing-in. Then spoke President Putin. However, he diverged from the speech written for him in advance, which is atypical for the event, and which some officials saw as an omen for their city service career.

The matter is, the mayor’s inauguration is followed by the city government’s protocolary dismissal. However, it is likely that some key Moscow officials will not return to office. Even though the mayor remains the same.
