Local Authorities Do Not Leave Game
// Less than half of Russia’s regions imposed additional restrictions on gambling business
Only 38 regions of Russia took their right to restrict or reduce since July 1, 2007, the presence of gambling business on their territory. Afraid of budget losses, most regions preferred to postpone putting bans on gambling to 2008, or did not impose any regional restrictions at all.
First federal restrictions on the gambling industry came into force on July 1, 2007. The new law has prohibited casinos of less than 800 square meters, and slot machine parlors of less than 200 square meters. There also are restrictions on the minimal assets of gambling business owners, and the minimal number of slot machines and gambling tables.

Krasnoyarsk became the largest (by population) region among the 38 Russian regions that banned all kinds of gambling business on its territory since July 1. The data was announced on Friday by State Duma deputy Alexander Lebedev.

Meanwhile, the attempts to impose special restrictions on gambling in larger regions mostly failed. Moscow and St. Petersburg did not introduce their own bans, considering the federal restrictions to be sufficient.
