Italians to Back Up Sukhoi Superjet After Sale
United Aircraft Construction Corporation, Sukhoi Co., Italian Finmeccanica, Sukhoi Civil Aircraft and Alenia Aeronatica sealed a strategic partnership agreement on June 19, 2007.
The yesterday’s deal of aircraft blockbusters sanctions the Italians to buy out a blocking stake (25 percent plus a stock) in Sukhoi Civil Aircraft. But the agreement is yet to be backed up by the government of Italy and requires a special ruling of Russia’s president.
The plans are to complete all formalities by the year-end, representatives of Sukhoi Civil Aircraft said. Amid other things, the agreement commits the Italian partner to fund at least 25 percent of all investments made in Sukhoi Superjet 100 Project and to set up by July 15 a venture that will ensure after-sale maintenance of the aircraft. The head office of such venture will be located in Italy.
