Kamchatka Geyser Valley Covered by Mud
The mud avalanche that descended in Kamchatka covered two-thirds of peninsular’s jewel, the Geyser Valley. Nobody has suffered as a result of the accident, according to the RF Emergency Ministry, but most of unique thermal strings perished for ever.
A powerful mud avalanche descended to the Geyser Valley yesterday at around 2:30 p.m. local time (5:30 a.m. MSK). The valley is located in the four-kilometer canyon and the avalanche formed a dam of 1.5km to 200m at the Geyser river flowing via the canyon’s bottom.
The V-formed valley has been filled by mud by dozens of meters, the witnesses say, specifying that the avalanche brought snow, trees, stones and mud and covered around two-thirds of the valley. Though the houses have survived the accident, the avalanche killed nature that was the jewel of tourist routes via the Geyser Valley.
There are no victims, according to the RF Emergency Ministry; 25 were evacuated, including 19 tourists and 6 of the catering staff. But two Germans are still there. They are filming a documentary about Kamchatka and a helicopter will rescue them Monday.
