Scored First of Last Four in Peace Sentiment
Economist Intelligence Unit promulgated yesterday its first Global Peace Index compiled for 121 states worldwide. Russia is just the 118th in terms of peace sentiment and life of ease, right ahead Israel, Sudan and Iraq.
Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) timed the release of its first Global Peace Index to the G8 summit that Germany will host June 6 to 8. When making out the index, the EIU analysts assessed 121 states in view of 24 indicators; absence of violence was regarded the key criteria and both domestic violence and invasions were taken into account.

To be more precise, the analysts studied military expenses of a certain state, strength of military and number of police taken per capita, level of organized crime, number of foreigners killed in the country, level of education of the population, extent of corruption and adherence to democratic values in policy.

Norway got the best score of EIU. It was followed by New Zealand, Denmark, Ireland, Japan, Finland, Sweden, Canada, Portugal and Austria. As to Russia, it was ranked no higher than the 118th, as the EIU analysts viewed our country too aggressive because of the overstuffed police and army, high level of organized crime and violence.

But the rating of the United States couldn’t be called very inspiring either. That world leader failed to climb above the 96th position, right ahead of Iran and well above Russia but below Ukraine (80).
